“Summer of Color” … just another beautiful day at the beach

I grew up in the South Bay; yet the beach still amazes me.  The soothing sounds of the ocean, the smell of the salt air, the sun warming your skin; you just can’t have a bad day at the beach!  Add to the naturally beautiful landscape of some of the world’s best beaches, vibrantly colored lifeguard towers and you have a scene screaming to be photographed.  Thusly, yesterday I went with Bob from Images of Imagination to photograph a couple of the festively painted lifeguard towers in Hermosa Beach.

The below towers are part of a 156 tower project, spanning 31 miles of the Southern California Coastline.  Organized by the nonprofit group Portraits of Hope, more than 7,000 volunteers came together to paint the lifeguard towers. Making the “Summer of Color – Lifeguard towers of Los Angeles project” the largest civic arts project in the US.
